8 August 1993 Consecration of the Cyril Pearlman Lodge in Perth, Australia
The idea of a Lodge of the Hebrew Order of David being established in Perth was initiated by Wor Bro Johnny Sonnabend to Mervyn Shevelew in February, 1992.
A meeting between the Grand President, Wor Bro Selwyn Fein, and the abovementioned brethren took place at Mervyn's home on 10 March, 1992 and it was decided to establish a Lodge in Perth.
The Consecration of the Cyril Pearlman Lodge No 56 was held on the weekend of 6 to 8 August, 1993. The executive and members of the steering committee, together with guests from Sydney and Melbourne attended a Shabbat supper at Bro Abe and Charlotte Shulman's home. Present were Wor Bro Percy Gersh, Brethren Ivan Kaplan, Bill Wigoder from Sydney and Mike Lazarow and Joel Distiller from Melbourne.
On Sunday 8 August 1993 the Consecration and Installation of the Officers of the Cyril Pearlman Lodge was held at the Jewish Centre.
At the banquet following the Consecration the honoured quests included Mrs Zelda Pearlman, widow of Cyril Pearlman, and Doron Ur, recognised leader of the Perth Jewish Community. Toasts were delivered by Bro Ron Samuel, Mervyn Shevelew and Wor Bro Percy Gersh and the Grand President, Wor Bro Bernard Joffe.
The first year of the Cyril Pearlman Lodge No. 56 of Perth, Western Australia, was one of highs and lows. After an excellent consecration week-end in August 1993, the Lodge held well attended monthly meetings, with table Lodge speakers of high calibre. Members arranged an outstanding Karaoke evening and organised a sausage and falafel stall at the Temple David Foodfaire. These activities raised much needed funds and created a lot of chavershaft.
