Consecrated Sunday 29 October 1967
As a result of the enthusiasm engendered throughout the Order, with the birth of a number of new Lodges and the large number of Brethren joining the Order, the Brethren of the F C Hollander Lodge in Durban were confident that a second Lodge could flourish in Durban.
At a most impressive ceremony, 80 Brethren were initiated by the F C Hollander Lodge in terms of a directive given to a steering committee. The Lodge was named Lodge Sinai, and the consecration took place on 29 October, 1967. In all, Brethren from 27 Lodges attended this consecration, being the largest number to attended a consecration to date. By 1968 the Lodge membership stood at 100 members.
Beth Shalom, the Jewish Aged Home in Durban, was especially dear to the Brethren of this Lodge who have lavished great care, time and money on it and its residents. An educational programme for Africans was undertaken with excellent results.
Among the projects that deserve special mention are the Chesterville Bantu Nursery School, that enabled hundred of black children to enjoy the benefits of nursery school training. The equipping and running of this school was undertaken by Lodge Sinai and was an ongoing project from year to year.
The Lodge later merged with the
FC Hollander Lodge to form
Lodge jaffa
Naming of the Lodge
The Sinai Peninsula or simply Sinai is a peninsula in Egypt, and the only part of the country located in Asia. It is situated between the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the south, and is a land bridge between Asia and Africa. Sinai has a land area of about 60,000 km2 (23,000 sq mi) (6 percent of Egypt's total area) and a population of approximately 600,000 people. Administratively, the vast majority of the area of the Sinai Peninsula is divided into two governorates: the South Sinai Governorate and the North Sinai Governorate. Three other governorates span the Suez Canal, crossing into African Egypt: Suez Governorate on the southern end of the Suez Canal, Ismailia Governorate in the center, and Port Said Governorate in the north.
