Rev Chaim Katz Lodge

Consecrated 25 November 1965

Through the effort of Wor Bro Arnold Goldman of Lodge Hillel, a meeting of prospective members was called in East London, with a view to forming a Lodge. Wor Bros Sam Jacobsohn and David Wacks flew to East London to address the meeting on the 27^th June 1965.

An interim committee was formed to make the application for a Charter to form a Lodge of the HOD in East London. The application for a Charter for a Lodge in East London was received and approved. All the names of the proposed members were circulated. It was decided that Wor Bro David Lazarus, who had been a very active member of the A P Bender Lodge previously, and who was highly respected member of the community, be proposed as the Consecration President. It was decided to charter a plane to bring brethren from Johannesburg and other centres for the Consecration on the 25^th November 1968 and to name the new Lodge The Rev Chaim Katz Lodge No 25.

The consecration was an outstanding success and a forerunner of a host of new Lodges that followed in the wake of the Rev Chaim Katz Lodge.

The Lodge holds two major annual projects. A successful Golf Day and the publication of an annual highly acclaimed magazine which raises funds which the Lodge distributes to a number of causes nationally.

East London
